Family Business Offers Core Categories and Nostalgia

Miller’s Hardware has been serving Winter Park and the greater Orlando area since 1945.

Key Takeaways

  • The business has multi-generation loyal customers
  • It remains in its original location and has grown from 800-square-feet to 17,000 since 1945
  • Niche products customers love include old-fashioned candy and soda

The business began as a Ben Franklin Five & Dime store, owned and operated by founder Robert R. Miller.

In the early years, he worked with his son Robert A. Miller and co-owner Cliff Canada, turning the everything store into a neighborhood hardware store that has multi-generation loyal customers. By the mid-1990s, Steve Miller was the third generation to take over ownership. Just as those before him, Steve has worked along with his three children over the years as well.

While the location of the original store remains the same, the footprint is drastically different, growing from an 800-square-foot space to 17,000 square feet. When you walk through the store, you can shop all the hardware and home goods categories you need. On top of being the go-to store for bits and pieces older homes need, Miller’s Hardware is known for its extensive grilling department, fireplace selection and old-fashioned candy and soda for sweet tooth’s wanting to really soak in the nostalgia.

Just like any independent retailer with a long history, the customer service provided by the Miller family over the years alongside all the items a customer could need make the business one customers continue to shop.
