Job Description

NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED – WE WILL PROVIDE ON-THE-JOB TRAINING!!!  JUST BRING YOUR GREAT ATTITUDE!!!  We need a self-starting problem solver who will engage our customers, demonstrate superior product knowledge, and create a shopping experience that will make the customer feel welcome and comfortable.

You will be responsible for backing up the Paint Specialist and showcasing your knowledge and skills by welcoming customers into our Paint Department, helping them choose the best paint color, sheen, and line for their specific project, proving color samples as needed, mixing paint with accuracy, and providing a quick and efficient checkout process. The job will also include merchandising within the Paint Department, stocking, cleaning, organizing and staying up-to-date on current home improvement and paint trends.

Essential functions include:

  • Assist customers in picking out the correct paint for their project
  • Accurately explain the Color Matching Process and Capabilities
  • Clean the paint pigment machine
  • Attend Paint Training Seminars when available
  • Become a Product Expert for our Paint Department
  • Mix paint with minimal errors/mis-mixes
  • Promote featured items, monthly specials, and sales
  • Ensure that Department signage and product tags are up to date
  • Ensure that items are fully stocked and in the correct locations
  • Build Paint Department End-Caps
  • Assist customers in all aspects of service
  • Determine customer needs based on information they have given you about their project and other customer preference-related factors
  • Demonstrate knowledge of store products to build sales and minimize returns
  • Maintain a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm
  • Be knowledgeable of and perform POS procedures
  • Promote and foster a collaborative teamwork-based culture

Required Education and Skills

• Education/Experience – High school diploma or GED. Previous retail and paint sales experience preferred, but not required.

• Communication Skills – Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Strong problem solving, influencing, and negotiating skills. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management. Able to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette.

• Mathematical Skills – Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Able to use a calculator. Must be able to calculate percentages and ratios. Must be able to make change using American Monetary units.

• Other Skills – Must enjoy meeting and interacting with customers. Must possess a strong sense of urgency and a thirst for learning.

• Work Hours – Ability to work a full shift, come to work on time, work overtime as needed, and work as necessary to meet job requirements. This may include working mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events such as Ladies Night and Contractor Appreciation Night.
